Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 4, 2026
Overview
X-Region is a browser extension that displays country and connection badges next to usernames on X (formerly Twitter). Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data the extension accesses and how it is handled.
Data Collection
X-Region does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. Specifically:
- No personal information is collected
- No browsing history is tracked
- No analytics or telemetry is used
- No data is sent to any external server
- No accounts or sign-ups are required
How It Works
The extension reads publicly visible usernames on X/Twitter pages and queries Twitter's own API (using your existing browser session) to retrieve publicly available account geo information (country and connection type). This is the same data visible on any user's "About" page on X.
Local Storage
The extension caches geo data locally in your browser using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API. This cache:
- Is stored entirely on your device
- Is never transmitted anywhere
- Automatically expires after 7 days
- Can be manually cleared from the extension popup
Permissions
The extension requires the following permissions:
- Host access (x.com, twitter.com) — to read usernames on the page and inject country badges
- Storage — to cache geo data locally and store the on/off toggle state
- Alarms — to periodically clean up expired cache entries
Third-Party Services
The extension does not use any third-party services, APIs, or backends. All API calls go directly from your browser to Twitter's servers using your existing session.
Changes
If this privacy policy is updated, the changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
